Maine Neurology's MRI department operates from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm, Monday through Friday. The department is staffed by two registered MRI technologists and two patient service coordinators, accommodating patients from Maine Neurology as well as Maine Neurosurgery. Our technologists skillfully perform vascular, neurological and orthopedic imaging, in most instances providing test results within one day.
The department houses a GE 1.5T Signal LX Echo scanner. Known as a
short bore scanner, it allows patients greater comfort during their exam, since they can actually see the opposite end of the room, allowing for an "open" feeling, and not a "tunnel" feeling. Our technologists go to great lengths to insure all aspects of patient comfort. For instance, some patients choose to conduct their MRI exams with a cloth placed over the eyes for relaxation, while listening to music via radio or their favorite CD.
Our MRI department provides services to more than 250 patients each month, and has recently achieved 3-year accreditation as a result of a recent rigorous survey by the American College of Radiology (ACR).
